With the summer around the corner, it's time to start thinking about putting together a new capsule wardrobe adapted to the season that will serve us for vacation outfits, lots of nights out, beach dates, and all the summer plans you have in mind. In What People Are Wearing we already got an article on the best clothes for warmer days and showed you a couple outfits to survive the heat, but now is time to focus on footwear, more specifically sandals & flip flops.
We know that flip flops are comfy, practical and they don’t take up much room in your closet or suitcase, but let’s be honest… Are they chic at all? Well, that’s questionable. Fashion is so personal to each and no one can tell you what you should wear, but we do think that a nice pair of sandals has the ability to not only be comfortable and practical, but to also elevate your outfit in a matter of seconds!
Let’s see a couple sandals that tick the same boxes as flip flops but are way cuter and classier!
1. Hermes Oran Sandal
Top of the list for the classic summer/spring sandal! Not only does it look super nice on, but the really low heel is what elevates them to look sleek & refined instead of sporty. On top of that, of course they are still comfy and walkable to wear all day long. You can take them with you on vacay as they are cute footwear for a stroll around the city & then dinner.
They look great with monochromatic outfits such as a pleated skirt and a polo but also with jeans and a cotton top for a more relaxed fit.

3. Platform sandals
If you want the practicality and comfort of the slip in sandals but at the same time need some height, then a platform is what you can go for. While heels can be a bit uncomfortable, especially for a lot of walking, a platform will allow you to add a couple of inches without compromising a soft, cushioned footbed.
You can go for different styles, but usually strappy options or the ones with only two wide stripes are the ones that will best hold your feet. You can combine them with all kinds of garments, but they’re definitely ideal for longer pants so you don’t have to drag -and even ruin- them.

4. Low-heel slide sandals
The outfits above say it all! Basic pieces elevated to a whole new level of chicness and charm! A minimalistic look doesn’t have to be boring or plain, and a little heel will help with that! While they might not be ideal for 10k steps around the city, they sure are lovely for a night date or a brunch with friends. I can also picture them for a business-casual look with jeans and a tucked in shirt for example.
For extra comfort get a wide heel and if you want extra support, definitely go for a slingback sandal instead of a slide one. Concept is quite similar but adding an extra strap to keep your feet more secure.

5. Wrap sandals
Wrap sandals are a summer classic since they are comfy and dressy (and by the way, they don’t take up any space on your suitcase!). They add a subtle feminine accent to the outfit, making it look more alluring and interesting! You can even go for details such as pearls, crystals, shimmer or metallics to ensure your shoes stand out!
They will look fantastic with dresses & shorts for an elevated urban look but are also ideal to wear for a comfy office day with linen pants and a shirt or a lightweight sweater

6. Flip flops but upgraded
If you still want to wear flip flops, let’s do it but in a more stylish way. How to do it? Well, there are three things that can transform a dull flip flop into a trendy one: first of all, a little wedge or heel. I would suggest avoiding platforms as they are mostly on the casual side and go for platforms that have a slight arch for some more sophistication. Secondly, thicker straps are crucial! Not only will they hold your feet better, but they will look so much more refined. And last but certainly not least: the straps material! Don’t go for rubber, opt for leather. Trust me, it’s going to make all the difference!
